Diesterweg Scholarship sponsored by the Offenbach Community Foundation
“Diesterweg’s Beet Mobile” bring Offenbach’s Diesterweg families and their neighborhoods together. The project focuses on collective action, sustainable learning, and participation.
Together, families build mobile garden beds, place them in public spaces, and care for them. These beds introduce greenery and biodiversity into the city, foster encounters and exchange, and make self-efficacy, responsibility, and identification with the local environment tangible.
Each bed is individually designed while also forming part of a visible, citywide network representing the DWS community and highlighting key topics such as insect habitats, urban greenery, and the use of public space. Through this work, families gain a voice in public space and are encouraged to actively engage in city life.
Guided tours, inauguration events, and presentations at site events increase the project’s visibility and invite more Offenbach residents to participate. In the long term, the Bürgerstiftung plans to sustain the sites through permanent greening of urban areas and neighborhood stewardship, turning the “Beet Mobiles” into anchors of a vibrant, diverse, and sustainable urban community.
