On May 11, 2026, starting at 19:30, we will screen the documentary film “Der Tod ist ein Arschloch” (Germany, 2025). The film is a sensitive, humorous, and moving portrait of funeral director Eric Wrede and offers a new, more human perspective on dying, saying goodbye, and dealing with grief.

After the screening, we warmly invite you to stay for a conversation about the film and its themes.
Design is not only about shaping objects, buildings, or products – it is also about how we shape our lives and how we deal with difficult topics such as death.
Death, as an unavoidable part of human existence, can also be viewed through the lens of design: Which spaces, rituals, and forms offer us comfort? How can we shape farewell, remembrance, and commemoration in ways that reflect our cultural, religious, and personal needs? These questions are at the heart of the events organized as part of World Design Capital 2026.
The Frankfurt Domkreis Kirche und Wissenschaft (Church and Science) takes this opportunity to explore the many approaches to funerary culture and the design of spaces for farewell and mourning in a creative yet respectful way. Death is not a topic only for funeral directors and churches – it concerns us all.
