Democracy thrives on open and respectful exchange – even when dealing with challenging issues. Going beyond the factual exchange of information and arguments, this dialogue format invites participants to share personal stories, listen attentively to one another, and become familiar with different perspectives.

Socially relevant and controversial topics tend to bring together a wide range of perspectives. Efforts to convince others through arguments alone can deepen divisions, making it increasingly difficult to recognize shared viewpoints. This is exactly where the dialogue format Speaking & Listening comes in. We invite citizens to take part in moderated conversations in which even controversial issues can be explored constructively.

The aim is to build bridges between people with differing views and to enable a respectful approach to conflict and divisive questions. The format is based on clear dialogue rules, mindful facilitation, and a simple, well-structured process in small groups. Timed speaking and listening create space to truly perceive needs, emotions, and diverse perspectives.
