Domäne S und VGF

Between escalators and train tracks, art finds its place: In seven display cases on the D-level of the VGF underground station Hauptwache, students present artworks made of ceramics, glass, and metal. Fire safety regulations required the use of these materials – and opened up new creative possibilities.

Patron Marcus Gwechenberger, City Councillor for Planning and Housing, opens the exhibition together with Carolina Romahn, CEO World Design Capital 2026, Dilan Alt, Head of the Education Programme World Design Capital 2026, Bernd Conrads, Press Spokesperson of VGF, and Gerrit Ulmke, Principal of the Helmholtzschule Frankfurt am Main and the Domäne S, accompanied by participating students.

The opening takes place in the rooms of the Dialogmuseum:
B-Ebene Passage 10, Abgang, An der Hauptwache, Roßmarkt, 60313 Frankfurt am Main

How to find the display cases:
At Hauptwache station, go down to the lowest level, the D-level, to the platform of the U-Bahn lines U1, U2, U3, and U8 (direction Bad Homburg etc.). At the front end of the platform, there is a small kiosk. To the right and left of it are the passages leading to the S-Bahn — this is where six display cases are located. Looking from the kiosk toward the opposite track, you can see the corner display case on the platform of lines U1, U2, U3, and U8 heading toward Südbahnhof.

The exhibition features three themes:

  • Marine Worlds – fragile corals and found objects reflect both the beauty and the fragility of the oceans.
  • New Urban Landscapes – architectural models made of clay and metal, inspired by the Dutch studio Ossidiana, invite visitors to rethink the city.
  • Lines and Surfaces Conquer Space – a guest project by students of Helmholtzschule Frankfurt translating drawings into ceramic forms.

Painted glass elements add depth and movement, while QR codes provide background information.

Participating schools: Gymnasium Römerhof, Gymnasium Süd, Helmholtzschule Frankfurt, Marienschule Offenbach, Robert-Koch-Schule Offenbach.

The project is made possible by the Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main (VGF) in cooperation with the Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt, the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM), and BDK Hessen – the Association for Art Education.

Workshops at the Museum Angewandte Kunst complement the program and are free of charge for school classes. Further exhibitions will follow every four months, with the next one opening in April 2026.
