Vacancy has become a key issue in cities and is a central focus of my work as an urbanist. My approach to activating vacant spaces begins with a combination of strolling discovery of these very gaps in urban space and the imagination and reflection that follow: What might be needed here? What could be a possible use or activation of this vacant space, and who might bring it to life? Discovery leads to imagination, imagination leads to questions, and questions lead to a possible imaginative intervention. On this day, we will fill this chain of thought — this conceptual chain — with water and color.
