MFA - Material für Alle
...
MFA – Material Für Alle is pleased to present, for the first time during Open – Design Week, works by artist Nik Geene that were developed on-site using materials from the MFA’s collection during their long-standing collaboration.
As the title Klangfahne / Spectral Tail suggests, Nik Geene’s works never operate solely within a fixed framework; instead, they incorporate process-driven effects and build upon them. A workbench becomes a bed; a Euro pallet’s capacity is multiplied and expanded to include a sustainable deposit system. A performance stage reveals itself as an acoustic design study, and the paper lamp—inspired by Isamu Noguchi’s Akari Light Sculptures—floats larger-than-life, embodying the interrelationships between art, design, and sustainability that this exhibition brings to light.
MFA—Material for All—has served as the hub for the reuse of materials from the art and cultural scene in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region since late 2019.
Nik Geene (b. 1986 in New Plymouth, NZ) studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt and works as a freelance visual artist in Vienna, Berlin, and Frankfurt.
