Lyoner Futura Quartier Wettbewerb

The Urban Now Lab (DDC @ WDC), together with the Standort-Initiative Neues Niederrad (SINN), is launching the Lyoner FUTURA Quartier Award, endowed with €5,000.

The official briefing will take place remotely on May 28 at 11:30 AM from the WDC Hub at the Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt. An open ideas and networking workshop will also take place on site. Designers, companies, organizations and individuals from all disciplines are invited to connect and collaboratively develop future visions for the 160-hectare district.

Lyoner FUTURA Quartier (formerly Bürostadt)
The Lyoner Quartier is currently undergoing a major transformation: from a monofunctional 9-to-5 office district into a mixed urban neighborhood for living and working. Located between Sachsenhausen and Frankfurt Airport, the former Bürostadt has the potential to become a model for future urban development — especially when planning, design and the lived experiences of people are considered together.

Although large-scale urban redevelopment and conversions are already underway, many typical deficits of former office districts remain visible: low-quality public space, weak ground-floor activation, lack of identity and urban areas that remain largely empty outside office hours — and often even during them.

This is where the Urban Now Lab comes in. Together with residents, employees, property owners, initiatives, administration and designers, the Lab develops concrete spatial, social and design-oriented solutions directly on site. Existing planning is not replaced, but expanded through local experience, participation and creative intervention.
