Naturpark RheinTaunus

...

The Naturpark RheinTaunus is inviting visitors to learn more about the design of its recreational trail network for walkers, hikers, cyclists, and wheelchair users. The event offers an opportunity to discuss nature and sustainability while enjoying a good glass of local Äppler.

The Naturpark RheinTaunus will present its new recreational trail network at Idstein’s traditional “Apfelweinfest unterm Hexenturm” as part of the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 project. The presentation will explain how around 2,500 kilometres of trails are being developed for walkers, hikers, cyclists, and people with reduced mobility.

It will be explained that the project goes beyond new signage, combining route planning, orientation, digital information, accessible infrastructure, sustainable materials, and visitor management. The aim is to make the nature park accessible to people with different interests and abilities while protecting sensitive natural areas and promoting sustainable mobility.

The organisers will also introduce the digital leisure portal, which connects landscapes, places, activities, and mobility, and will explain how municipalities, associations, volunteers, and users can contribute to its development.

The project will be presented as an example of “Design for Democracy”, making public spaces more accessible, understandable, and open to everyone. Visitors will be invited to learn more about the concept and discuss it with the organisers while enjoying a glass of local Äppler. Admission will be free, and the venue will be barrier-free accessible.

Venue notes: The venue is located in the heart of Idstein's historic old town and is barrier-free accessible. Arrival on foot, by bike, bus, train or car is possible.

The "Apfelweinfest unterm Hexenturm" is organised by Streuobstkreis Mittlerer Taunus e. V. together with Hotel Felsenkeller. The event is supported by regional associations and organisations. RheinTaunus Nature Park participates as a guest, presenting its WDC project "Recreational Trail Network in RheinTaunus Nature Park" with its own information stand.
