How can sustainable quality of life be created right on people’s doorstep for everyone? This question is at the heart of the new recreational trail network in the RheinTaunus Nature Park.

The aim is to provide a practical, nature-friendly infrastructure for leisure and local recreation, accessible by foot, bicycle, bus, or car. The challenge lies in accommodating different needs, preferences, weather conditions, fitness levels, and lifestyles – while protecting nature.

The trail network relies on carefully planned routes, barrier-free access, and sustainable building materials. It creates new atmospheric connections between landscapes and settlements, nature and culture. The physical network is complemented by the digital portal www.freizeitportal-nrt.de, offering a routing map, inspiration, and features for inclusive tour planning. This promotes individual participation – including for groups or people with disabilities.

People can actively contribute: by testing routes, acting as digital scouts, participating in workshops, or providing ideas for new routes and offerings. Implementation is carried out step by step in close coordination with municipalities, associations, and committed volunteers. The project makes the nature park tangible as a local ErLebensRaum Stadt.Land.Fluss – both outdoors and digitally. It is visible in the landscape, in the digital space, and in the awareness of the people moving through it.

The recreational trail network was initiated by the advisory board of the RheinTaunus Nature Park, coordinated by the office led by Andreas Wennemann with Martin Bley and team. Together with municipalities, volunteers, and partners, an inclusive trail network is being established within the ErLebensRaum Stadt.Land.Fluss.
