The world is currently experiencing a rise in temperature – not only politically, but above all climatically. Heatwaves, heat congestion and heat stress are acute phenomena of climate change that have increasingly entered public awareness in recent years.
The term “oasis” has always evoked a place of longing. To fulfil this promise in times of climate change and climate adaptation in architecture, a sustainable transformation of the built environment in both urban and rural areas is essential. This presents all actors with major challenges. What adaptation strategies can a transforming society develop?
Extreme weather in all its forms is also emerging as a major driver of investment – against the backdrop of budget constraints, a construction recession and trade conflicts. What does it mean to plan and build with climate adaptation in mind under such conditions? What defines resilient (infra)structures and the “cool places” that will become essential?
Alongside the just and productive city, the New Leipzig Charter calls for the “green city”. How can this be made tangible in spatial and architectural terms? Has the guiding model of the “stone city” of the 19th century, dominant in recent decades, had its day?
The conference explores integrated solutions that contribute to climate adaptation and “(r)urban resilience”. Together with international experts, concepts from architecture, landscape architecture and urban planning will be presented and discussed.
