Hands-on-Workshopwoche

The Department of Architecture at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences is offering a hands-on workshop week with excursions as part of Open from 8 to 12 June. The entire department will visit inspiring sites in Darmstadt, Frankfurt, and the surrounding region, while also realizing practical building and design formats on campus and in urban space, including 1:1 formats.

The aim is to sensitize students to the spatial, cultural, and built qualities of the region while making the full range of the department’s fields and disciplines tangible. By combining excursions, practical experimentation, and shared reflection, the programme opens up diverse perspectives on architecture, city, and landscape. Numerous formats are designed to be participatory and also invite external participants to take part.

As part of OPEN, the Department of Architecture in Darmstadt positions itself—from June 8 to 12—as an open venue for encounter, exploration, and collective action. Excursions, hands-on formats, and collective inquiries open up new perspectives on architecture, the city, and the landscape, making the full thematic breadth of the department a tangible experience. The entire department will visit formative sites in Darmstadt, Frankfurt, and the surrounding region. Concurrently, practical construction and design formats will be implemented both on campus—including within the CAMPUSBAULAB, an experimental 1:1 learning and workspace—and throughout the urban landscape. Participatory activities invite participants to re-read regional contexts, to understand design as a collaborative practice, and to continue the dialogue surrounding the built environment.
