FutureThinking Workshop on the Future of Shopping
Bargain bins, store windows, fitting rooms, checkout counters: Brick-and-mortar retail has its established order. But with the upheaval in the retail industry, this order is also being called into question. What might the shopping experience of the future look like? And can digital technology be used to revitalize analog shopping?
In this workshop, we’ll take a close look at the classic zones of a brick-and-mortar store: Each station represents a question—about product presentation, sales tactics, the payment process, and the moments before and after the purchase. What are we missing? What do we definitely not want to bring back? And what needs to be reimagined?
We’re all consumers—and that’s exactly where we’ll start. The workshop thrives on your perspectives and experiences, whether you’re from the retail sector, work in urban planning, study design, or simply want to contribute your ideas.
The results will be tangible: Each group will create a mood board on a customized shopping bag—an object that will then be on display in the exhibition.
The workshop will be led by Judith Block, a futurist and product designer at The Future:Project, in collaboration with Janine Seitz, expert on consumer culture
