Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main mit Geschichtswerkstatt Offenbach, studio pari-pari
...
On 22 May 1933, a public book burning organised by the National Socialists took place on Schlossplatz in Offenbach. This was supported by students and staff from the Technische Lehranstalten, the predecessor institution of the HfG. To ensure this transgression is not forgotten and to critically engage with current reactionary, right-wing and fascist tendencies, the ‘Politics Day’ working group at the HfG is actively involved.
To mark the anniversary of the book burning on 22 May 2026, the publication ‘Geschichtsabdrucke. Antifascist Sites in Offenbach’ will be presented at the BOK Gallery in Offenbach.
This collaborative project by HfG lecturers and students brings together various contributions arising from a joint workshop with the Geschichtswerkstatt Offenbach and its antifascist city tours, as well as the STADTSTEMPEL project by studio pari-pari (Marina Kampka and Lena Schrieb).
The book launch will feature a discussion between historian Andrea C. Hanser, designer Simon Wahlers from the Alliance of Publishers Against the Right, and art educator Nanna Lüth, each of whom has contributed a text to the publication in which they examine, from a historical context, questions of responsibility in design and the role of art colleges as spaces for discourse. The discussion will be moderated by Nina Wood. Students from the Typography/Type Design course (Adrian Baczyk, Daria Kuzmina, Tasya Lokteva, Igor Tarasov, Mignon Vahl) present their design projects. The project is an initiative by Paula Schneider and Johanna Siebein from the Ag Politics day group.
Supported by World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026, HfG Offenbach, and special funding from the City of Offenbach
