Conversations about darkness

Art’n’Vielfalt – The Museum Sinclair-Haus podcast on art and nature accompanies the museum's new exhibition Nachtleben.

In the two-part podcast series, journalist and host Marilena Berends talks to artists and scientists who explore darkness and nocturnal life from different perspectives. These conversations embody the intersection of art, science and everyday life and explore the question: How dark do we actually experience the night today?

The first episode hosts biologist and author Sophia Kimmig and physicist Manuel Philipp from the association Paten der Nacht. Together, they ask: How can we protect darkness – and what do we gain from it?

In the second episode, two women who immerse themselves in darkness and night for their work join the conversation: artist Melanie Manchot and cultural scientist and author Lisa-Viktoria Niederberger.

The exhibition Nachtleben at the Museum Sinclair-Haus opens on 21 September 2025 and runs until 15 February 2026. Nachtleben invites visitors to rediscover darkness as a habitat for humans and animals, and explores themes of visibility and invisibility.
