Talk on the planned installation A Sky Full of Hope above Konstablerwache
Artist Janet Echelman in conversation with Anna Scheuermann, free entry
The US artist Janet Echelman is internationally renowned for her monumental, poetic net sculptures and is considered one of the leading figures in public art worldwide. The Department of Culture and Science has now commissioned her to create a new work in Frankfurt. The project is part of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026.
From July onwards, one of her aerial sculptures will float above Konstablerwache. A Sky Full of Hope will stretch across one of the city centre’s busiest and most polarising squares – a colourful, immersive artwork that stands for openness, diversity and international connectedness, symbolising collaboration and adaptability.
In conversation with Anna Scheuermann, Janet Echelman offers insights into the development of the Frankfurt project, her artistic practice and the concept of a living sculpture. How do art, high-tech and urban society interact? What power can art in public space unfold – and what impulses does the artist hope to spark at Konstablerwache?
