Artist Talk Gulshat Gubaidullina, Cornelia Siebert

How can photographs preserve memories across generations, borders, and political ruptures? In Reverbaration, Gulshat Gubaidullina turns to her personal family archive to explore her Tatar origins. To understand the loss of the Tatar language and identity within her family, she examines photographs and letters, searching for evidence of belonging and continuity.

In conversation with Cornelia Siebert, she discusses photography as a vehicle for memory, the complexity of the post-Soviet diaspora experience, and her artistic quest for traces of a Tatar identity rooted in family histories.

Cornelia Siebert holds a Master's degree in Cultural Studies. Her research interests focus on socially engaged photography, particularly the work of women photographers and the photographic history of the GDR. She currently works as a Junior Curator at the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation in Frankfurt. Alongside her curatorial practice, she writes on photography, and moderates and participates in public talks and discussion
