Thank you – we could only do this with you!
On Tuesday 16 April, we signed the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 contract with more than 400 guests, including 40 mayors and representatives from the fields of culture and business.
A surprising and moving gesture was offered at the beginning of the event by student representatives from Frankfurt and Hanau, who presented themselves under the motto Design for Democracy. Atmospheres for a better life. They were exited with the opportunity to redesign their schools and prepare them for the future.
Top: Presenter Phungi with stundents from Hanau and Frankfurt am Main. Bottom: Claus Kaminsky, Dr Ina Hartwig and Karin Wolff at the corner store.
As befits the region, student representatives, state politicians, the President of the World Design Organization and representatives of past World Design Capitals met on stage at our corner store. In their contributions, the actors from the region called for the urgency of participatory and democratic processes. The international guests, on the other hand, showed how design can help as a tool for sustainable change.
Ina Hartwig, Head of the Department of Culture and Science of the City of Frankfurt am Main: “World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 brings Frankfurt and the region together.”
Dr Thomas Garvey, President of the World Design Organization: “What you build here in Frankfurt RheinMain will be projected around the world so others can benefit from your ambition and leadership.”
Anna Scheuermann, Programme Director WDC 2026: “Things don’t change, we change them. Participate!”
The highlight of the event was the moment when the curtain on the stage rose to reveal the large wall to which all 400 attendees were invited to sign. A very special, euphoric moment, because World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 is an invitation to all of you! Thank you to everyone who was there. We will publish our video of the signing ceremony here in the next few days.
