What are the ingredients for healthy building?
The project shines a spotlight on the transformation that is reshaping the building industry. At its core are healthy and regenerative materials that avoid petrochemical components. These biogenic materials not only enhance the quality of our surroundings but also open new creative, entrepreneurial and aesthetic possibilities. And, they reconnect long-standing building traditions with the present and spark fresh opportunities for innovation in industry and craftsmanship. Expanding beyond specialist or academic circles, the exhibition brings this matter directly to the public in an exciting and accessible way.
Curated by architect Leila Behjat, co-founder of the Healthy Materials Lab EU, and interior architect Silke Remmel, experienced in exhibition design, the presentation combines design-led research with democratic elements of societal live. It creates an aesthetic event with a clear message, encouraging everyone to ask: “What is it made of – what are we made of?”
The centerpiece of the installation is The Long Table which is a place to gather - inviting people to sit down, enjoy, exchange ideas, and make collective decisions. And, it is here, were knowledge exchange, communication and discovery happens.
The spatial intervention is designed as part of a student design-build project under the direction of Prof. Isabella Leber (Faculty of Architecture, HSRM), thus combining design, education, the young generation, and real-world participation. Visitors are invited not only to view the exhibition but to join the dialogue, discover the beauty of sustainable materials, and imagine together how they can shape a healthier and more creative built environment.
