With the dismanteling of the 1928 side aisle, running alongside the Walhalla’s ballroom, work begins on investigating the historic window façade of the Walhalla, dating from 1897. The findings will inform the redesign of this facade, which will once again feature windows, patio doors and small balconies. The Walhalla becoming visible, and the light from the ballroom shining onto the surrounding streets and squares, will transform the atmosphere of Wiesbaden city centre.
This new sensual experience is taken up by Freudenberg Castle, which invites visitors in the afternoon to explore its mobile experience zone at the construction site on Hochstättenstrasse.
From 4 pm to 6 pm, information sessions on the current renovation work will take place at the construction site every hour.
In the evening, Lord Mayor Mende will open the exhibition “Urban Design & Transformation – The Walhalla Cultural Venue” at the Mauritius Mediatheque and take part in a panel discussion on the same topic.
The musical programme will feature works by the Jewish composer Heinz Lewin, who worked at the Walhalla before the Shoah.
Afterwards, all guests are warmly invited to stroll through the exhibition and chat whilst listening to salon music.
In Wiesbaden, the historic Walhalla Theatre is coming back to life! Built in 1897 and listed as a cultural monument, the building is not only being restored to preserve its impressive architecture but also transformed into a vibrant cultural hub for all generations.
In the future, the Walhalla will offer space across its various floors for a diverse programme – from festivals and readings to film and dance evenings, concerts and events for children and young people.
This cultural project by the City of Wiesbaden is being developed in close collaboration between the Mayor’s Department and the City Development Corporation, alongside architects Waechter + Waechter & Wenzel + Wenzel and the local and national cultural scene. It promises to become a new cultural landmark in the heart of Wiesbaden.
