Walhalla

Event Series: Walhalla
2026

Landeshauptstadt Wiesbaden

With the removal of the side aisle added in 1928 along the Walhalla’s grand hall, explorations of the building’s historic window façade from 1897 begin. The insights gained through this process will inform the redesign of the façade, which will once again feature windows, terrace doors, and small balconies. Making the Walhalla visible again—and allowing light from the grand hall to fall onto Hochstättenstraße after the renovation—will transform the atmosphere of Wiesbaden’s city center.

This new sensory experience is taken up by Schloss Freudenberg, which invites visitors in the afternoon to explore its mobile experiential installation at the construction site on Hochstättenstraße.

From 3:00 pm onward, hourly information sessions will be held at the site, providing updates on the ongoing renovation work.

In the evening, Mayor Mende will open the intimate exhibition “Urban Design – The Walhalla Urban Development Project” at the Mauritius Mediathek and take part in a panel discussion on the same topic. The musical program will be provided by the trio Mishurisman, performing compositions by Heinz Lewin, a Jewish musician who worked at the Walhalla before the Shoah.

Afterwards, all guests are warmly invited to raise a glass to the start of the Walhalla renovation.

In Wiesbaden, the historic Walhalla Theatre is coming back to life! Built in 1897 and listed as a cultural monument, the building is not only being restored to preserve its impressive architecture but also transformed into a vibrant cultural hub for all generations.

In the future, the Walhalla will offer space across its various floors for a diverse programme – from festivals and readings to film and dance evenings, concerts and events for children and young people.

This cultural project by the City of Wiesbaden is being developed in close collaboration between the Mayor’s Department and the City Development Corporation, alongside architects Waechter + Waechter & Wenzel + Wenzel and the local and national cultural scene. It promises to become a new cultural landmark in the heart of Wiesbaden.
