Tage des Exils 2026

From August 20 to September 6, 2026, the Tage des Exils invite people in and around Frankfurt am Main to engage in dialogue about historical and contemporary experiences of flight, persecution, and exile.

This public-facing program of events and encounters is an initiative of the Hamburg-based Körber Foundation, in cooperation with the German Exile Archive 1933–1945 of the German National Library. Together with numerous local organizations and cultural institutions, the program offers 50 events at 26 different locations across Frankfurt. Through exhibitions, discussions, readings, concerts, films, and performances, the theme of exile is explored and discussed from a wide variety of perspectives.

Historian Irina Shcherbakova, serving as patron, will deliver the "Address on Exile" at the opening ceremony on August 20 at the German National Library. The complete program for the Frankfurt Days of Exile can be found on the Körber Foundation’s website: www.tagedesexils.de.

The Tage des Exils is a public-facing program of events and encounters organized by the Körber Foundation; it provides a platform for people in exile and builds a bridge between the present and the past. The focus lies on both historical and contemporary experiences of exile. The events encourage dialogue and mutual understanding between long-term and new residents, aiming to foster greater social cohesion. Since 2016, the Körber Foundation has organized the Days of Exile regularly—in partnership with the Herbert and Elsbeth Weichmann Foundation—in Hamburg as well as in other cities such as Berlin, Bonn, and Schwerin. Marking its tenth anniversary, the Days of Exile is taking place in Frankfurt am Main for the second time in cooperation with the German Exile Archive 1933–1945 of the German National Library.

Körber-Stiftung
With its operational projects, networks, and cooperation partners, the Körber Foundation addresses contemporary challenges across the key fields of "Knowledge for Tomorrow", "International Understanding", and "Vibrant Civil Society". Established in 1959 by the entrepreneur Kurt A. Körber, the foundation operates nationally and internationally today from its locations in Hamburg and Berlin.

Deutsches Exilarchiv 1933–1945
The German Exile Archive 1933–1945 of the German National Library is a site for historical engagement with exile and emigration during the National Socialist era. It collects and indexes testimonies of exile: publications as well as institutional and personal archives. Its goal is to make the diverse reality of exile visible and to ensure public access to its collections. Co-initiated by exiles in the early post-war period, the archive also sees itself as a place of civic education. Through exhibitions, events, and publications, it communicates the varied experiences and forms of expression of exile, building bridges from the past to the present.
