See You Soon – Gedanken zum und über ein Theater der Zukunft explores the future of theatre – and the question of who is actually allowed to shape that future. Rather than leaving this question to cultural policy debates, the installation brings together the voices of people with very different experiences and relationships to theatre. It views the future not as a vision held by a few, but as a process of negotiation involving many perspectives.
On display are the results of two artistic working processes:
An audio collage gives voice to a multitude of people of different ages and from diverse backgrounds, who were invited to address the theatre of the future in letters. What does theatre need in order to remain a socially relevant space? What do the people who work in it need? Which structures need to change, and which qualities should be preserved?
The second part are the results of the participatory exhibition [T]RaumTheater, which took place at the Produktionshaus NAXOS. Theatre and cultural practitioners were invited to reflect on the present and future of theatre. A film documentary, video messages from visitors and collages draw on the perspectives gathered there. An open collage table invites F°LAB festival-goers to develop their own images and visions of a future theatre.
The installation was created as part of the performance research project Sozial-ökologische Transformation des Stadttheaters. Briefe an die Zukunft einer Institution bürgerlicher Öffentlichkeit at the Institute for Theatre, Film and Media Studies at Goethe University. The seminar was led by the artist duo deufert&plischke and supervised by Nikolaus Müller-Schöll.
