PhotonenSpur & Paragraphen

PhotonenSpur und Paragraphen – Was bleibt vom politischen Geschehen in der Langzeitbelichtung features large-format images of political processes in the 20th German Bundestag, captured by Angelika Kohlmeier over a period of more than four years using a tin can. The result is a series of unique black-and-white photographs on photographic paper.

The works were first exhibited in 2025 at the Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin.

The exhibition is complemented by time-lapse recordings that can be played on your own smartphone when you approach the photographs. In this way, the artist made the detailed course of plenary debates, parliamentary group meetings and committee meetings visible.

The exhibition deals with the change in political images and debates in the face of digitalisation and time pressure. It aims to make democratic processes transparent, thus becoming part of them and raising the question: What is parliamentary reporting allowed to do and what does it do to us?

This work has also been published in book form.

Angelika Kohlmeier is a photojournalist and artist working in Berlin whose current photo reportage builds on her many years of work in political Berlin. Her artistic works, separate from her commissioned photography, are an expression of her long-term photo reportages on personalities from politics and society, as well as her exploration of socially critical issues. Together with Bernd Kohlmeier, she forms a couple who have been working and living together for more than twenty years, engaging in political, analogue and experimental photography and repeatedly integrating technical innovations.
