Mobilität und öffentlicher Raum

In Frankfurt’s Mobility Master Plan, mobility education has been given high priority. The project “Mobilitätsbildung – Kinder und Jugendliche gestalten ihre Stadt mit” follows the three stages Understand – Experience – Participate, aiming to enable children and young people to play an active role in shaping mobility and public space in Frankfurt.

The programme begins with an educational module that introduces the topic of mobility in an age-appropriate way at schools (Understand). This is complemented by guided cycling excursions, for example to explore individual school routes (Experience). Finally, students are supported in representing their interests through collaboratively developed ideas for shaping public space (Participate). Through this process, young people learn about democratic participation opportunities within their neighborhoods and school environments.

Umweltlernen Frankfurt has been active as an extracurricular educational provider for more than 30 years, supporting schools, kindergartens, and the city’s education administration in the field of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). This includes environmental education, nature experience, and global learning in a shared world. The project is carried out on behalf of the Frankfurt City School Authority.
