Money is a matter of trust. What design should a central bank have in order to promote people’s trust and make it easier for them to ensure stable prices? Why does the central bank’s independence from politics play such a major role, and how does that fit with democracy? How did the Bundesbank become independent and how did its example influence the design of the European Central Bank?
Dr. Ulf Slopek, President of the Regional Office in Hesse of the Deutsche Bundesbank, answers these and other questions and discusses them with the audience. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to exchange ideas at a get-together with a snack.
The Deutsche Bundesbank is the independent central bank of the Federal Republic of Germany. It forms part of the Eurosystem, sharing responsibility with the other national central banks and the European Central Bank for the single currency, the euro.
