Communication requires objects: things that can be used to compose, send, or receive messages. Their design has never been solely a question of technology. Usability, aesthetics, and marketing come together to create designs that boldly stand out from the competition and set global standards.
Between one-off pieces and mass-produced items, design developed that is still inextricably linked to certain brands, eras, and uses today. It is often the design that determines whether communication media find their way into our everyday lives and ultimately into design history.
From June 1, 2026, until the end of the year, the Museum for Communication in Frankfurt will be showing a special design intervention in its permanent exhibition. Selected objects from the museums vast collection illustrate how strongly good design has shaped the history of communication.Join us on a new design tour of the permanent exhibition, where the museum presents some of these milestones in design, including Braun's memorable "Snow Whites Coffin" and the futuristic Kuba Comet TV cabinet.
The Museum of Communication in Frankfurt is one of three museums under the umbrella of the Museum Foundation for Post and Telecommunications in Germany. With its exhibitions and events in the award-winning building on the Museumsufer, it promotes discourse on the topics of communication, society, and technology. With over 11 million objects, the foundation maintains one of the world's largest and oldest collections on the history of communication and media.
