mehr als wählen e.V.
In a free democratic country, many people often take the achievements of democracy for granted. Especially in recent times, it has become clear that this is not necessarily the case.
Engaging with political processes is a fundamental prerequisite for understanding the value of democracy. Likewise, practicing democratic forms of exchange at an early stage — already in schools — is an important part of social development.
The role-play simulation in the “DemokratieWagen” enables school classes to explore political issues through system constellations. The bus symbolically represents a social and political system in which people occupy very unequal roles: one person sits at the front behind the steering wheel, while eight people have space in a comfortably furnished lounge area at the rear. Other participants can sit at the front, while some have to stand.
At the end of the simulation, the students create a documentation on a prepared flipchart-sized poster, which can then be displayed in the classroom. The aim is to contribute in the long term to students developing a positive and reflective relationship with democracy. During the simulation, students experience inequalities within political and social systems first-hand and jointly reflect on what a better system could look like.
