The Frankfurt skyline symbolises progress and change. But what happens when high-rises lose their original function? The exhibition Aufmachen! Rethinking High-Rises highlights the potential of existing towers as sustainable resources, vibrant places and open building blocks for the city of tomorrow.
Repositioning means more than just refurbishment. It preserves existing structures, enables new, multifunctional uses, enhances greening and climate resilience, and creates public functions that connect high-rises more closely with the urban fabric. Drawing on building typologies from Frankfurt and Offenbach, the exhibition encourages visitors to explore ideas for a more active, diverse and sustainable urban landscape.
Exhibition opening: Friday, 16 October 2026, 19:00
Curatorial team: Rudi Scheuermann, Tim Ahlswede (both Arup) and Peter Cachola Schmal (DAM)
