Wiesbaden's roots as a spa town, and later, a world-renowned health resort known for its hot springs, are barely visible in the cityscape, yet they continue to shape Wiesbaden's identity to this day.
Different Roman groups will show you what life was like 2,000 years ago. Ars Replika brings the everyday lives of the Germanic peoples to life, Civis Nemetum explores the traditions of Roman bathing culture, and Fabia, a maker of potions and poisons, shares her secrets and ancient recipes. Meanwhile, the Praefectus Castrorum of Legio XXI entertains visitors with fascinating stories from the ancient world.
To celebrate this, the Roman Days on September 26 and 27 at WerkRaum Wiesbaden will feature the following program:
- The exhibitions The Romans in Wiesbaden and Hot Springs – Wiesbaden's DNA offer scientifically grounded insights into Wiesbaden's history. Puzzle stations convey historical content in a playful and interactive way.
- Groups of reenactors authentically recreate Roman life from 2,000 years ago, bringing it to life in a hands-on way.
- Stories and accounts from Roman antiquity by Lukas Czerwinski, historian, author, and enthusiastic Roman enthusiast from Legio XXI Rapax.
- City walks to the hot springs uncover the now-hidden sources of thermal water and recount Wiesbaden's bubbling history. Participation is on a donation basis. At 11:30 and 14:30.
- Hands-on activities for all ages as part of the educational programmes offered by the sam – Stadtmuseum am Markt. Information booth of the Förderverein Stadtmuseum Wiesbaden e.V.
