In 2026, the state of Hesse will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the adoption of the Hessian Constitution and, with it, the democratic values that remain in force to this day. However, crises, wars, and the political shift to the right are increasingly undermining our democracy. Rising wealth inequality, that is, the gap between rich and poor, is also leading to discontent and major democratic problems.
The Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation have joined forces to raise awareness of this issue and engage people in conversation. The play Unser Erbe: Tax me if you can by Helge Schmidt and his team, which premiered at the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden in 2024, is coming to the WerkRaum in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. The staged reading of this documentary research project, created to mark the 100th anniversary of Friedrich Ebert’s birth, vividly illustrates why the rich keep getting richer and how our system perpetuates injustices. Following the performance, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation will host an engaging finance quiz, and the audience will have the opportunity to discuss the topic.
Featuring: Martin Plass, Felix Strüven, and Sandrine Zenner from the acting ensemble of the Staatstheater Wiesbaden
