The aim of the art format “Entfestigung” is to activate and make visible the tower ruin of the Wasserburg Staden in Florstadt as a vibrant, democracy-promoting community space through a participatory approach to preserving its dilapidated roof.

The Entfestigung project questions fortification structures using the tools of art and design. The action format, which has already taken place annually on the first weekend in June—referred to as the “International Day of Fortification” in various cities—will be hosted at the tower of Wasserburg Staden for the first time in 2026. A young team consisting of Adam Langer, Ulrike Silz, and Max Weisthoff develops transdisciplinary perspectives on cultural heritage protection. What could future forms of use look like under conditions that foster democracy?

On 6 June, artistic contributions, discussions, and a communal meal invite visitors to get to know the project. An extended afternoon from 2 to 7 pm marks the beginning of a public process of collective making and shaping, leading towards the “Entfestival”, our second event on the Day of Open Heritage (13 September 2026).

Note: Access to the tower of Wasserburg Staden is via the meadow at the eastern exit of the L3188.

Entfestigung is an open cultural network initiated by the artist-curator duo Adam Langer and Max Weisthoff. Together with designer Rike Silz, they are collaborating for WDC 2026 with architect Alex Römer, sculptor Ludwig Hauser, as well as further local and international partners.
