Entfestival - Dachschaden in der Wetterau
The format “Entfestigung” questions the preservation of fortified structures through artistic means—not on the basis of historical substance, but with a focus on future uses.In doing so, “Entfestigung” turns current heritage conservation practices on their head and opens up new perspectives on a human-centred approach to cultural heritage protection.
As part of WDC 2026, the project celebrates the 870th anniversary of the Wasserburg Staden in 61197 Florstadt. On this occasion, the “Entfestival” invites visitors to the Wetterau region on 13 September 2026. Guests can take part in design workshops, exhibition contributions, as well as a discourse and video art programme. The aim is to bring the castle ruin more strongly into public awareness and to revitalise it by “preserving” the dilapidated roof and tower as a democratically effective communal space.
For this purpose, the project team around Adam Langer, Rike Silz, and Max Weisthoff collaborates with local actors, Constructlab e.V., as well as invited experts from heritage conservation and the arts. Interested participants of all ages and backgrounds are warmly welcome.
Note: Access to the tower of Wasserburg Staden is via the meadow at the eastern exit of the L3188.
Entfestigung is an open cultural network initiated by the artist-curator duo Adam Langer and Max Weisthoff. Together with designer Rike Silz, they are collaborating for WDC 2026 with architect Alex Römer, sculptor Ludwig Hauser, as well as further local and international partners.
