Designers conduct research differently. But what does that actually look like, and what does it mean for a library's collection? Helge Aszmoneit has been head of the German Design Council's library since 1987 and has assisted designers with their research over the decades. She has first-hand knowledge of how designers search for information and how this has changed over the years.
The German Design Council library was founded in the 1960s. It makes comprehensive design knowledge publicly available – with nearly 20,000 books, videos, DVDs, and CD-ROMs, as well as approximately 40 current international journals. The historical journal collection comprises around 400 titles.
The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics investigates why and how people create art and how they perform, experience, and evaluate it. The Institute’s focus is on music, but we also engage with other performing arts such as dance and film.
