As part of the WDC 2026 theme “Design for Democracy,” an interdisciplinary hackathon will be held to bring together creatives from the fields of design, content and programming. The goal is to develop new creative and digital approaches to make democracy visible, understandable, and tangible.
Working in collaborative teams, participants will create visual, interactive or data-driven concepts that address democratic values, social issues and forms of participation. The results will be presented on a large-format LED display in a public space - in the heart of downtown Wiesbaden - thus making democracy accessible to a broad audience beyond institutional settings. This can be achieved, for example, through interactive elements that engage passersby, mood-based displays that reflect local data, or artistic interventions that stimulate dialogue.
The visualization in urban space serves as a catalyst for exchange and discussion and connects creative processes with the urban public sphere.
The event takes place over two days:
26 June 2026 | 11:00 am–10:00 pm
28 June 2026 | Cancelled due to extreme heat
All you need is a computer and a tool of your choice for creating clipart-style sequences that convey a message.
