How does design change when analogue handwriting meets artificial intelligence? The panel discussion Analogue Meets AI – Design Between Authorship and Algorithms organised by the Media Design programme at IU International University explores the opportunities, disruptions and tensions within a discipline in transition.

As part of WDC 2026, experts from design practice, research and teaching will discuss key questions: What role does authorship play when AI-generated images, texts and models increasingly become part of creative processes? How does creative responsibility change when decisions are influenced by algorithms? And how can analogue, haptic and experimental methods remain relevant – or even gain new significance?

Moderated by Prof. Florian Althans, the panel featuring Prof. Tanja Godlewsky, Prof. Daniela Reuß, Prof. Katharina Drasdo, Prof. Christian Lutsch and Prof. Marc Engenhart brings together diverse perspectives: from visual communication and design ethics to systemic design and AI-supported workflows.

The event invites students, professionals and interested members of the public to rethink design as a social practice – critically, openly and with a focus on the future.

Afterwards, we invite visitors to the opening of the Design with Impact (link to https://wdc2026.org/en/events/design-with-impact ) exhibition, in which students showcase design as a catalyst for change and a tool for a sustainable future through their work.
