The project aims to raise awareness among 4th-grade students that they live within a larger societal context beyond their families and schools. They learn that they can already positively influence their surroundings.

To make the abstract values of democracy tangible, students are involved in group work to produce short films. Storylines are developed together with the project team, after which students write their scripts and create short films under professional guidance.

The production process itself serves as a democratic learning experience: listening, respecting different opinions, and reaching decisions together. Each participant can contribute according to their own talents, with equal participation for all.

In the first step, the project will be introduced to the 4th-grade classes this year. The following year, the short films will be produced over two days.

The project leader has 13 years of experience producing short documentaries in art, culture, and foundation work. The team includes Dennis Schurtakow (cameraman, media designer in image and sound) and Eike Flechsig (sound expert, sociology). The project partner is August-Gräser-Schule in Schwanheim.
