nitz-porzellan / Sandra Nitz

...

At studio nitz-porzellan in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen, as part of the Open Design Week Frankfurt, the essence of form and gesture is brought into close proximity. The exhibition places the reduced, tactile porcelain vessels by ceramic artist Sandra Nitz in relation to the dynamic, gestural works of painter Carsten Fock.

While the works of Sandra Nitz emerge from the stillness of the potter’s wheel and derive their quiet strength from experience, material knowledge and precise craftsmanship, Carsten Fock develops a painterly practice that oscillates between a relaxed ductus and high precision, grounded in an intensive engagement with art history and the contemporary present.

In Fock’s work, language is a recurring element: it enters the pictorial structure, interweaves with painterly gestures, and expands the image space into a second, often contradictory layer.

Finely crafted porcelain meets process-based painting. From the combination of craft, material and artistic practice, works emerge that move between persistence and openness. A space of tension unfolds between closeness and distance, stillness and movement, form and gesture – condensed in the idea WE HERE.

Under the label nitz-porzellan, Sandra produces clear, sensual vessels on the potter’s wheel, reduced to the essentials. Her forms are balanced, calm and precise, yet serious and powerful.

Carsten Fock works in painting and drawing and is an established contemporary artist. His practice moves between gestural painting, historical motifs, and fragments of contemporary visual and textual culture. Language is not commentary, but an integral part of his pictorial structure and a recurring tool.

The nitz-porzellan studio will also be opening its doors on the Focal Day in Frankfurt, offering visitors the chance to take part in the hands-on workshop Blitz Sculpture in Porcelain.
