Wahl-Lokal

2026

BGBA Hanau University of cooperative education

Results from the Communication in Space module Project: Wahl-Lokal.

Everyone who votes knows the procedure. On Sunday, you arrive at a rearranged classroom or other municipal space with your polling card in hand, register, receive a ballot paper that appears to be of poor quality, then sit down in a cardboard box, mark your choice with a pen that doesn't write well, throw your ballot paper into a repurposed rubbish bin and say goodbye. How could the most important act in a democracy be made more appropriate? The design results will be shown in an exhibition by the BGBA at the Stadhof Hanau. Results from the Universal Design module The following questions will be examined: How should our everyday environment and its products be designed so that everyone can easily understand them and enjoy using them or be able to use them at all? How can the principles of universal design lead to more inclusive solutions? When can universal design have a restrictive effect? How is universal design expressed in the design of digital products? How can participatory design processes contribute to more inclusive and democratic living spaces?

Martin Krämer is a professor at the Brüder Grimm Berufsakademie Hanau. He has been head of the academy since 2021. Design teams of 15 to 20 students work on the modules.
