Take back the city!
Make the city of tomorrow visible together.

As part of WDC Open, the Urban Now Lab of the DDC invites you to renegotiate urban spaces: as open, adaptable real-world laboratories full of opportunities. At Walther-von-Cronberg-Platz, we will discuss how design begins in the midst of life – where people live, work, meet and negotiate the future.

The focus is on collaborative placemaking: How can public and semi-public spaces become more vibrant, accessible, sustainable and socially effective? The Urban Now Lab connects creative expression, social participation, professional planning and concrete implementation power. Citizens, property owners, operators, shop owners, restaurateurs, planners, initiatives, NGOs, companies and everyone who wants to actively help shape the city are invited.

On site, we will present the Urban Now Lab, its methods and current projects – including Urban Now Mapping and the Lyoner FUTURA Quartier Award, which the Urban Now Lab is launching together with the Standort-Initiative Neues Niederrad e.V. (SINN). The award seeks interdisciplinary future ideas for the Lyoner Quartier: from quick impulses to grand visions in architecture, design, mobility, open space, social intervention, art, events and new usage models.

The award is endowed with €5,000. The jury process is democratic and carried out by the shortlisted participants themselves, based on the DDC method “Good Design – What is good?”.
