How can we reimagine and collaboratively shape democracy, social cohesion, and prosperity in times of multiple crises? The Transition Participatory Conference 2026 brings together committed individuals, initiatives, academics, and practitioners from the German-speaking region to exchange experiences, learn from one another, and shape the future together.

Under the motto "Shaping a Future-Proof Democracy and Prosperity: Paths and Crossroads of Change," an open space for interaction and participation is being created for everyone eager to actively shape social change. The focus lies on civic engagement, self-organization, local resilience, and new forms of collaboration—all in the spirit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The conference combines insights from academia and practice with formats designed collaboratively. Keynotes, workshops, panel discussions, BarCamp sessions, and cultural contributions create space for exchange, mutual learning, and concrete, practical ideas. In doing so, we look not only at successful projects but also at the challenges and uncertainties that many engaged individuals face today.

As part of the WDC 2026 programme, the event demonstrates how design can support democratic processes, foster participation, and open up shared visions for the future. Together, we explore how civic engagement, dialogue, and creative collaboration contribute to developing resilient regions worth living in.

The Transition Participatory Conference is organized by Transition Netzwerk e. V., Transition Town Frankfurt e. V., and the Offenes Haus der Kulturen.

Please note: The participation fee for the full three-day conference is € 5.00, plus an optional catering fee. Donations to help fund the conference are warmly appreciated.

Transition Initiativen Deutschland connects over 120 local initiatives across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Its goal is to foster exchange, mutual learning, and civic engagement for a sustainable, equitable, and resilient society.
