A micro-house as temporary accommodation
“What’s the problem is the rain and the winter” – sometimes a single sentence is all it takes: having a roof over your head is not something to be taken for granted. For hundreds of people in the Frankfurt RheinMain region, secure housing is a daily challenge. When natural disasters such as the Ahr Valley floods strike, the need becomes even more urgent: how can we quickly provide decent accommodation?
The solution of Smart Green Box fits into 7.5 square metres
They are developing an energy-self-sufficient micro-house made from sustainable materials, which offers people shelter and connects them to society through smart technology. A well-designed living space with privacy, sanitary facilities, a cooking area – and the opportunity to participate in society once again.
Together with apprentices from the craft sector and in cooperation with the Chamber of Crafts Frankfurt-Rhein-Main, the initiators have, as a first step, constructed the outer shell of the box as an exhibition module. The walk-in show unit brings the concept to life and encourages reflection on the theme of sufficiency – the question: how much does a person need to live?
From 25 to 28 September, Smart Green Box will be making a pit stop at Willy-Brandt-Platz (Märchenbrunnen) in Frankfurt.
The life-size interactive information box uses visualisations and discussions to show how the project is set to be further developed through interior design and smart technology, and how a vision can be turned into practical help.
Itinerary:
Friday 25 September, 18:00: Opening of the box and project presentation.
Saturday-Sunday 26–27 September, 12–18:00: Exhibition, guided tours.
Monday 28 September, 10:00–16:00: Exhibition and guided tours.
