SEIT 19/02/20 HANAU (Projektinitiatorin: Biarna Diegmüller)

Since the right-wing terrorist attack in Hanau on February 19, 2020, a large number of texts have been written. People have put their thoughts, grief, anger, and questions into words in order to process the horrific crime. Speaking about February 19, 2020 has changed public discourse and, in turn, the way racist violence and structures are written about. These voices are at the center of the website seit-hanau.de, which is conceived as a continuously growing archive. In addition to the texts, the website offers modular poster templates for download that can be flexibly used in a variety of contexts.

As part of WDC 2026, workshops will take place in which participants are encouraged to articulate their personal thoughts, experiences, and insights in writing. They may work with their own texts or build on existing contributions. Every voice matters and is treated equally, regardless of age, background, or professional experience. The texts are made visible in the form of posters that are then displayed in public space. In this way, a collective discourse emerges that brings the attack and its consequences into public awareness and calls for societal responsibility. Teenagers and young adults are especially invited to take part. The workshops are deliberately low-threshold: no prior knowledge required, little effort needed, but a real opportunity to be heard.

Biarna Diegmüller studied at art academies in Bremen and Offenbach. Her current work is shaped by sociopolitical and sociocultural themes and operates at the intersection of art and design. A clear stance in design is non-negotiable for her.
