Mobility is a basic need and the foundation of economic, social and cultural activities. It is changing as a result of demographic shifts, working from home and rising rents, and must be adapted in light of climate change. The aim is to create attractive mobility options for everyone – especially in rural areas – and to reduce car use. Good design ensures user-friendly concepts with a high quality of stay, recognition value and better orientation. This applies equally to mobility stations, bicycle infrastructure and cycle highways.
Project 1: Mobility stations in the Wetterau district:
Over the next few years, various mobility services are to be bundled at mobility stations in all 25 municipalities in the Wetterau district. In the first phase of expansion, 32 stations are planned at railway stations and important transport hubs, and existing locations are to be supplemented. In the long term, a comprehensive network of mobility stations is to be created throughout the FrankfurtRhineMain region. The first stations are expected to be built in 2026.
A concept has been developed and refined into a module catalogue, which serves as the basis for coordination with the municipalities, tenders and the acquisition of funding.
Project 2: Identity-building infrastructure elements for cycle highways in FrankfurtRhineMain
The nine cycle highways, with a total length of 250 km, are at various stages of planning and construction. User-friendly infrastructure elements have hardly been considered so far. Based on the needs of cyclists, infrastructure elements for breaks, information, weather protection and repairs are to be developed. These will improve the quality of everyday travel and create a sense of identity. The aim is to achieve a uniform, regional appearance for the cycle highways, which will aid orientation and increase the attractiveness of cycling. The project will be supplemented by a signage and marketing concept and a modular catalogue from which local authorities can select suitable elements.
The goal for both projects:
In the long term, a comprehensive network of mobility stations and cycle highways is to be created that does not stop at municipal boundaries. Both projects are intended to serve as a model for the entire FrankfurtRhineMain region and offer people more freedom, quality of life and satisfaction with improved mobility options.
Initiator: andré stocker design develops the infrastructure elements and creates identity-shaping design solutions.
Project partner: The Regionalverband FrankfurtRheinMain initiates and leads the projects and coordinates the participating project partners.
