As part of the WDC 2026, the installation EM-Field Arboretum by the Frankfurt- based artist duo 431art marks the kickoff of the reopening of the Museum Kelkheim for Furniture Craftsmanship and City History.

The installation takes a multifaceted look at wood as a material. On the one hand, the installation addresses the changing use of exotic woods in furniture design, navigating the tension between species conservation, mass-produced furniture, and sustainable consumption. On the other hand, the installation offers a shift in perspective, viewing trees not merely as a material but as living beings. Through various interwoven cognitive layers, the interactive spatial installation creates a multisensory space of perception. Audio compositions based on the electromagnetic fields of individual trees form the acoustic layer. The visual layer, based on bark structures, navigates the tension between topography and landscape, and between the digital and the analog. The exhibition is accompanied by a supporting program. The performance Fragrance Lab on November 20, 2026, presents olfactory components in a poetic and pointed manner.

Supporting Programme:
Artist talk on Sunday, November 1, 2026, 16:00
Artist performance “Fragrance Lab” on Friday, November 20, 2026, 18:00
Additional events (lecture, workshop for young people) in planning

This art project is made possible by generous funding from the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain.
