Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt

...

The Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt is one of Germany’s major museums, bringing together numerous collections from art, cultural, and natural history. As one of the last remaining universal museums, the diversity and quality of its collections is unique within Europe.

Tour Description: The Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt was built at the end of the 19th century by the architect Alfred Messel (1853–1909). Celebrated as a total work of art (Gesamtkunstwerk) upon its completion in 1906, the museum building is particularly notable for its so-called period rooms (Stilräume). These exhibition spaces were architecturally tailored specifically to the respective exhibits, creating a unique symbiosis. On 11 June at 16:00, we warmly invite you to discover the architecture and history of this fascinating building as part of a public guided tour.

Admission to the museum is free of charge on this day.
