Hanau3Places – Gemeinsam Lebensraum gestalten

2026

BGBA Hanau - University of Cooperative Education

The project focuses on the question ‘How do we want to live in Hanau?’ and responds to the need for liveable, communally designed urban spaces. The aim is to use participatory design to develop new ideas for improving quality of life, community spirit and sustainable urban design.

Students from BGBA Hanau – University of Cooperative Education are engaging in a creative dialogue with the urban community. The focus is on public and unused spaces, which are being reimagined together with citizens and activated on a temporary or permanent basis.

Hanau3Places relies on open, low-threshold formats such as workshops, walks, design activities and discourse formats to achieve participation by all. In this way, needs and demands are made tangible and everyone is involved in the design process. This results in concrete design proposals, interventions and meeting places that collectively change the city in a tangible way. In addition to the students, local initiatives and educational institutions, the administration and residents are also involved. The project process includes research and dialogue, design and testing, implementation and reflection. The results are made visible through joint actions in urban spaces and digital formats. The project understands design as a tool for social participation and sustainable urban development – open, dialogical and in direct exchange with all local people.
