Guided tour – Haus der Demokratie

The Paulskirche stands like no other place for the history of democracy in Germany. The first National Assembly convened here. In this tour, you will get to know the Paulskirche not only as a historical site, because it has not lost its relevance to this day. You will gain exciting insights into its history and architectural development, as the Paulskirche is a prime example of democratic design in its form. The architectural language expresses democratic values and allows visitors to experience the idea of democracy in a spatial way.

The tour shows how architecture and design can make democratic values visible and tangible. At the same time, it looks to the future: the planned House of Democracy continues this tradition. The process initiated in 2025, with an open ideas competition and broad citizen participation, was only the beginning. Learn about the challenges ahead and how you yourself can become part of this exciting project.

The Development Unit called Stabsstelle Entwicklung Paulskirche / Haus der Demokratie of the City Frankfurt Main is implementing the House of Democracy as a complement to the Paulskirche through a participatory process interdisciplinary team.
