How vibrant and contentious are the foundations of our society? 22 artists from across Germany are presenting their perspectives on Articles 1 to 19 of the Basic Law – the fundamental rights – at the BBK Frankfurt gallery.

To capture the full breadth of the subject matter, the selection was made via a nationwide call for entries open to all state and regional associations. A panel of experts comprising two Frankfurt gallery owners and a lawyer selected 22 outstanding works. The diversity of the artists’ backgrounds and the international origins of the association’s members reflect a broad, global understanding of our fundamental rights. The result is a provocative and highly topical exhibition – art that takes a clear stand, challenges the status quo and provides new impetus for social coexistence.
