Geschichten erzählen in Stop-Motion
Karoline Schüßler
The project introduces an innovative workshop format that combines creative processes with the concept of upcycling. The aim is to collect and reuse materials in order to create unique sets and characters.
Participants go through different phases, starting with an introduction to the basics of upcycling to raise awareness of sustainability. Afterwards, they collect materials, which can be expanded through a swap or donation area.
With supportive guidance, participants design sets, characters, and stories from these materials. Using a free app, the creations are staged, photographed, and brought to life through short stop-motion sequences. Working with stop-motion requires concentration and patience, which can be challenging for some children or adolescents. Therefore, the timing of work and break phases can be flexibly adjusted.
The workshop concludes with the editing of the films and a presentation of the results, followed by a feedback round in which participants share their experiences. The films can be made available to the public online. Collaborations with schools or similar institutions are possible – either during school hours or as part of vacation programmes.
The project is initiated by the multidisciplinary collective Karoline Schüßler and Jana Köhle. The aim is to explore the environment in a sustainable and creative way through stop-motion films. At present, cooperation partners are being sought, including vocational or special-needs schools.
