Frankfurt is shaped by growing cultural diversity. Cultural policy has so far not adequately addressed this reality. Culture is often reduced to the consumption of a fixed canon, although at its core it represents the active form of living together. Integration is not only a task for newly arrived residents but concerns all parts of the urban society.
The project focuses on the coexistence of cultures and the culture of coexistence. Its aim is to provide space for people – whether recently arrived or long established – to share their personal stories and to experience that these stories matter.
The working title, inspired by formats such as “One City Reads a Book,” is “One City Writes a Book.” The ambition is to engage as many people across the city as possible. The project is a communicative process that overcomes boundaries and fosters connections.
Two approaches are planned: distributing beer coasters in different languages with QR codes passed from hand to hand, and offering autobiographical writing workshops at various locations, such as vacant shop spaces. These venues will serve as anchor points where stories become visible and the project manifests in the city.
