DRAC is a temporary architectural installation conceived as an open cultural space for the city.

Located in the garden of Instituto Cervantes Frankfurt as part of World Design Capital 2026, the pavilion will host a programme of public events throughout the duration of the installation, inviting visitors to experience architecture, creativity and culture in a shared public setting. The project also acts as a platform for exchange between Spain and Germany within the international programme of WDC 2026, highlighting perspectives from Spain’s artistic and cultural landscape.

The project marks the 2026 centenary of Antoni Gaudí through a contemporary reinterpretation of his legacy. The dragon of Park Güell in Barcelona — Drac in Catalan — appears as an abstract narrative element, a recognizable cultural symbol that connects visitors with Gaudí’s legacy.

Its lightweight modular structure, made of wood and ceramic, allows the pavilion to transform the space without permanently altering the site, functioning as a flexible platform for cultural activities and collective experiences.

Inspired by the principles of the New European Bauhaus (beauty, sustainability and inclusion) DRAC proposes a temporary cultural infrastructure that brings together architecture, design and public life.

Note: The pavilion will be accessible to the public during the regular opening hours of Instituto Cervantes Frankfurt, except on days when private events take place.

The project is initiated by ICEX Spain Trade and Investment and the Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Düsseldorf (Ofecome Düsseldorf), in collaboration with Instituto Cervantes Frankfurt. Together, these institutions combine economic and cultural expertise to promote exchange and cooperation between Spain and Germany within the framework of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026.
